Several nights ago, L woke up with a searing pain in his chest that left him crumpled on the floor. He thought he was having a heart attack. His chest remained sore for the next couple of days. It freaked both of us out. A few hours in urgent care and an EKG later, he found out that it was likely brought on by indigestion, stress, anxiety, and who knows what? The doctor who treated him said, “I don’t know what it is”. (Not an answer a distraught patient wants to hear, but at least it wasn’t necessarily bad news.) In the process of getting checked, he also found out that he has borderline high blood pressure.
He’s been working overtime, and basically breaking his back for the past couple of months. His stress levels have been really high. But regardless, this really scared both of us into realizing how important it is to take care of ourselves. He’s not 23 years old anymore. The days of fast food and Harry Potter dogs from Pink’s are long gone.
Both of us have had our share of health issues lately. To say the least, it’s exhausting and scary. For two people who have been healthy and active for the majority of our lives, it can also be frustrating. We have both decided that without a conscious effort to achieve a healthy lifestyle, we are really screwing ourselves. Time for an honest and real change.
I am considering starting a health series where I talk about the different ways we are working on making improvements – both physically and mentally. We are currently setting goals and making plans, and it feels nice to finally be working toward a better lifestyle. I’m not sure yet how much I will blog about it, but I figure that blogging about it might help keep the motivation up? We’ll see.
As I’m writing this, I am about to start cooking a healthy dinner. After dinner we have hot and sexy plans to take a walk/jog (I walk, he jogs) around the neighborhood. This Less than Domestic Goddess is about to get domestic on your asses…and in shape! Fingers crossed!

    That's a great idea. I look forward to reading this series. It just takes one big health scare to get you motivated. And thankfully, L's okay, right? After my uncle's cancer and his new diet of raw vegetables that has sustained him, I realized that what you eat (and also your stress levels) have a direct effect on your health! Good for you for doing this!

    Good luck, and I'm so sorry to hear that happened to L!!!! Honestly, it seems that the best lessons you learn in life come after having the absolute crap scared out of you! I would have been a hot, panicky mess if that happened to Mr. Wing! I can't wait to hear what strides yall are taking! We all need motivation, and GO DG for giving it to us! 🙂
