Yes, I have been M.I.A. all week. It’s been a pretty weird week. On top of some personal stuff, I am uninspired and disappointed in my blogging. I have been for awhile now. At times, I feel this overwhelming sense of apathy towards my writing, and it’s frustrating, to say the least.

That’s right, kids, I am in the midst of an official (and long) blogging dry spell…and, it sucks.

I have a bunch of posts sitting in draft form that are mocking me. I read through them, and I think, “This is the most boring shit I have ever read.” And then I click away, close my browser, and shut down my laptop.

I have a number of things going on in my personal life, some good and some bad. Most of it isn’t particularly newsworthy and a few things are too private to share.

So where do I go from here? I am going to try and claw my way back, one post at a time. I hope you will bear with me.

Have you ever struggled with your blogging? How did you get yourself out of it?

Carly dear – the most important thing is for you to not feel bad about it! Sometimes we just have weeks (or months) where we need to take a break. Don't apologize!

The last time I had a couple of weeks like that I found that doing something creative got my mind moving again. We painted our apartment walls – but maybe go on a walk through the beautiful fall leaves, take out an old coloring book and crayons, cook a 5-course meal using only what you have in your kitchen. Or maybe it's simply to sit down and write. Some of the best advice I was ever given was to write, especially when I didn't feel like it. Instead of writing blog posts, sit down with a piece of paper and a pen and just write – and see what happens. Maybe it turns into a post, maybe it doesn't … but it gives your brain a way to be creative without thinking about possible critique 🙂

Good luck – you'll be just fine!

Usually when I feel particularly suckie, I take a break and wait until something really inspires me. Good luck!

I'm struggling right now. I have a ton of drafts. I have written recently, but thinking of wedding re-caps has me in a slump.

I totally struggle with blogging, and I have a hard time keeping up with other people's blogs and commenting. I think that's the hardest part, because there is just so much out there to read and absorb! Hang in there Carly, we'll be here when you're feeling more motivated.

It happens. Take your time and don't force anything – have fun with it!

I struggle all the time! I write things that I know are boring but post it for the sake of posting someting. Sometimes I wonder if I blog for me (like I had intended when I first started) or if I blog for others…

I ALWAYS love reading your blog.

Yes, definitely! I hit a slump just 2 weeks ago – it's hard. What worked for me was letting up on the self-pressure and letting things come back naturally. Easier said than done, I know!

Girl, I HEAR you. I've been a slump for almost 2 years and I just don't know if I'll ever get it back. Oh well. The way I look at it is that it's supposed to be FUN, an escape, and once it becomes stressful/work, it's not worth it. 🙂 That said I will v much miss reading your lovely posts should you no longer publish any.

I took the month of August off of blogging and it was the best. Maybe take off the rest of the year- so you can come back with vigor in the new year!

i agree with the others–i think it's totally normal and understandable (and kind of necessary) to go through a blogging slump so you can take a break and refresh. no need to pile guilt on top of it!
